Pioneer of the sustainability movement. Martin is an accomplished connector, enabler and entrepreneur specializing in emergent and innovative public-private partnerships, especially in high conflict arenas. Nearly 35 years’ experience in natural resources management and sustainable development. 

Martin pioneered the practice of collaborative, community, and regional-scale sustainable development in the U.S. Pacific Northwest and several Latin American countries. His conservation career spans nearly 35 years and includes extensive experience in natural resources management and sustainable development. 

Between 1983-1986 he was Assistant Director for Science and Director for Conservation Planning at The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and Conservation International (CI), and subsequently Director for Mexico for TNC, CI, and World Wildlife Fund. From 1994-2013 Martin was the founding President of Sustainable Northwest based in Portland, Oregon. Appointed by governor John Kitzhaber Martin helped found the Oregon Sustainability Board and has served as a trustee of several foundations including The Summit Foundation, The Compton Foundation, and Fondo Mexicano para la Conservación de la Naturaleza (which he helped found). 

Currently, Martin serves as a trustee of the Mesoamerican Reef Fund, Sustainable Northwest, and co-chair of the Advisory board of Aclima, an environmental intelligence/sensor science company. He recently joined start-up Long Haul Capital Group, a new national livable, walkable and sustainable communities finance firm, and serves as associate in Cooperative Advantage (founded and led by NOW Partner David Sherman) and to the Academy for Systems Change, organizations that specialize in development of leaders for a flourishing future.

In 2013 Martin founded Moebius Partners LLC, a consultancy specializing in advising philanthropies, nonprofits, and triple-bottom-line private sector companies. His recent clients include the Center for Renewable Energy and Environmental Quality in La Paz, Mexico, the Harry & Leona Helmsley Charitable Trust, International Community Foundation, the Walton Family Foundation, and California Environmental Associates. He also served as co-chair of the Oregon Sustainability Board and Western Juniper Working Group appointed by Governor Ted Kulongoski of Oregon. 

Martin has spent his career determined to provide meaningful and sustainable solutions that work for people, communities, businesses, and the environment. He was born and raised in Mexico in a tri-cultural family. He travels frequently, mostly in the US, Mexico, and Latin America and enjoys scuba diving and fly-fishing.
